Youth Action for Food Self-Sufficiency and Education (YAFSSE)
Youth Action for Food Self Sufficiency and Education was formed in 1985, the year that the United Nations declared the year of the youths. The organisation was formed by a collection of youths and farmers and was originally called Gambia Youth Federation. Youth Action for Food Self Sufficiency and Education works in the West Coast Region and the North Bank Region. We contribute towards the Millennium Development Goal of improving access to safe drinking water and try to ensure that our projects are sustainable within the local communities. We focus on the following areas of intervention: • Poverty reduction (youths and women participation) • Food self-sufficiency • Access to safe drinking water We belong to a network of Non-Governmental Organisations in the sub-region called SADIO. We have attended trainings organised by TANGO and our former partners Terre Nouvelle Belgium on institutional development and strengthening through the Network SADIO. |
• Our Makumbaya water reticulation system provided safe drinking water for more than 8000 people in 3 cluster villages • We have provided the women of Galoya village with vegetable gardens • We provided a water system for safe and portable drinking water for the community of madory village in the North Bank Region • We have conducted numberous trainings on issues such as gender and HIV/AIDS prevention |
